Dorsalis Pedis Artery Advancement Flap Repair of Forefoot Back Skin Defect

Abstract:Objective: to investigate the method and effect of treating forefoot back skin defect by dorsalis pedis artery advancement flap repair. Method: To 9 cases of patients with forefoot back skin defect, we performed dorsalis pedis artery advancement flap repair after cleaning the wound, with the defect area (length×width) being 2.5cm×3.5cm~4cm×7.5cm. Results: after the operations, all the flaps in the 9 cases survived with primary healing of the incision. Follow-up were 6~9 months, averaged 7 months. The flaps had fine appearance and good feel of texture. The feet functioned satisfactorily. Conclusion: Dorsalis pedis artery advancement flap repair included known arteries, veins and nerves. The flap has sure blood supply and return, and survives with high quality and good feel. The operation is simple with small wound, suitable for repairing small area forefoot back skin defect.
